Come learn more about the five Shreveport Martyrs, our Servants of God, whose Cause for Beatification and Canonization recently received the unanimous approval of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops! This fall marks the 150th anniversary of their deaths, as between September 15 and October 8, 1873, all five priests willingly laid down their lives caring for victims of the Shreveport Yellow Fever Epidemic. Counted among these five martyrs to charity was Father Louis Gergaud of Monroe, whose life and ministry in this part of Louisiana is also a fascinating story!
Their heroic lives have been documented in a series of books and an internationally acclaimed and award-winning film, The Five Priests.
Join Father Peter Mangum and Dr. Cheryl White for a two-part series on The Shreveport Martyrs of 1873 on Sunday, September 10 and Wednesday September 13 at 6:15 p.m. at Jesus the Good Shepherd Church.
