Saint Vincent de Paul Society (S.V.D.P)
The Saint Vincent de Paul Society is an international Catholic service organization which is very active at Jesus the Good Shepherd Church. The organization is involved with seeking to meet temporary, emergency needs of those needing assistance. The organization helps with providing food, clothing, Christmas gifts for needy children and adults, and other forms of assistance to those in need. SVDP maintains a collection box in the gathering space of the church and is always collecting clothing, canned goods, blankets, etc. to give those in need. There is also a community pharmacy located in downtown Monroe which provides free pharmaceutical drugs to qualified individuals in Northeast Louisiana. The pharmacy is located at 502 Grammont Street. It is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the phone is (318) 387-7868. Each year in September, JGS Church hosts the SVDP Poor Man's Supper which consists of a soup supper and live and silent auctions to benefit the pharmacy.
Organization directors and members customarily meet at JGS on the 2nd & 4th Monday of the month at noon. New members are always welcome. For further information you may contact the Church office (318) 325-7549.
